The California Highway Patrol stated that the incident happened at approximately 7:01 AM on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5, just north of Sutterville Road. Investigators identified the vehicles involved as a Toyota Tacoma pickup and a large truck towing two trailers. The pickup truck had a tire go flat and came to a stop in the third lane. The truck driver, heading north, crashed into the stationary truck. The front of the semi hit the Toyota Tacoma, igniting an explosion and a fire that consumed both vehicles. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed by officials as they await notification of the family. The driver of the big rig managed to survive the accident and got out of the vehicle before it caught fire. Paramedics provided care at the location before taking him to a local hospital.
